An angel from hell With wings white as china Chew me up Extinguish my fire In a winters mist Surrounded by tall grass hiss Slowly sinking into the prairie With a masked trace Crawling to the shore Whats written now's worn With the tide back and forth Kneel down for the lord I'm pleading out I'm pleading out Come cleanse me now Please cleanse me now My arm is a constellation Unseen by coiled faces Speaking in tongues Heavy with soiled blood Silence rings through these walls Guiding me through blackened halls To the room with a familiar fire Lit by my desire Crawling to the shore Whats written now's worn With the tide back and forth Kneel down for the lord I'm pleading out I'm pleading out Come cleanse me now Please cleanse me now Now Now Now Now

Sextons Call 04:56
They ride out at night All dressed in black You can see it in the air Your fellow mans shrieks of fear When they hear the sextons call They scream their chants and slam their doors Here they come Oh, here they come So close your eyes and hold thy tongue For whom the bell tolls Is yet to come With each thunder clap you can hear deaths gallop Getting ever near with each shed tear Disguised in smoke they're veiled, they’re cloaked Hidden in the cracks of your walls Now look what's at your door Knock by knock Knock by knock Knock by knock Knock by knock Oh, pray for us

Mourn 06:41
This hangs above me Like a guillotine blade and its falling grace An execution to be my retribution The final act for your amusement To be forgotten by my peers Better off for coming years Will you mourn Leave a rose brimmed with thorns Or will you scorn Spit at my words, kick my dirt A metallic taste that haunts of rejection Two faces with no affection Whispers of the willows gales A myth of a singing mirage, pale Will you mourn Leave a rose brimmed with thorns Or will you scorn Spit at my words, kick my dirt Spit at my Kick at my Spit at my

Roll the dice Live by night Roll the dice Live by night Snake eyes Snake eyes Raise the stakes Pay the price Take a life Live in blight Take a life Live in blight No not I No not I The game is mine The game is mine The game is mine The game is mine Samedi come find me Samedi come find me Samedi come find me Samedi unbind me It was his or mine You huntsman of wrights An eye for an eye You hustler of sights Now I’m roaming the interzone Back to the crossroads Where I was reborn Hollowed eyed Adrift through your smoke

about

City Rose bring to one’s ears the most unique and confronting sounds. Their debut EP is layered with thunderous bass, pounding drums, guitars clashing with insanity, and poetically heavy vocals.

City Rose was formed in late-2016 by Pat McCarthy (Bass) and Andrew Exten (Vocals), two Sydney-siders whose aim was to create an expressive ensemble sharing similar creative, musical, literary and conceptual interests ; and ultimately fill what they viewed as a void in the Sydney music scene. A view shared by Lucy Howroyd (Drums) and Hunter Auzins (Guitar) who quickly joined the band, consolidating its core.

The band quickly built a strong reputation, spreading like fire in their home city of Sydney, built on their powerful live performances, each member pouring their own personality both in the sounds produced and the way they carried themselves.

After sharing bills with many of Australias elite underground, in early 2019 City Rose were given the opportunity to support IDLES on their first Australian sold-out tour, which was followed by some significant showcases at Australia’s premier music festival BIGSOUND in Brisbane.

The band went on to record their self-titled debut with Tim Powles of ’The Church’ as producer and engineer and four songs were carefully selected to be representative of the raw, frenetic energy of their early sound and to reflect the dynamism, flow & aggression of the bands live set. Impressing this energy to the recorded format would prove to be a tumultuous process, revisiting Tim’s home studio over a number of weekends and nights to slowly flesh out a soundscape from an ever growing catalogue of sounds and ideas. The process was long but ultimately rewarding and the band is proud to have a slice of their musical history to share with the world.

But soon after digging their feet in both Sydney & Melbourne music scenes, and going through some personal trials and tribulations within the band, City Rose regretfully announced that their final show would be at Melbourne’s sold-out Weird Place Festival at The Tote on October 19th 2019. This last (?) manifestation was recorded and will be released as a companion to their debut EP. On the flip side of the cassette, and on digital on its own. The rose may have faded but never lost its thorns.
But who knows, it might blossom again some day.
